Delphinus delphis
3D Volume Rendering Technique (VRT) reconstruction from CT scans (CT images) of a Short-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis). This postmortem animal was used in a study that measured the potential of underwater explosions to induce blast injury and acoustic trauma in marine mammals and sea turtles (related publication). Multiple pressure gauges were inserted near the lungs, epaxial muscle, melon, nares, ear and intra abdominal region to detect received pressure levels. Specimen courtesy of the Cape Cod Stranding Network (CCSN/IFAW).
