| Abstract | As the world’s foremost expert on marine mammal ears, Darlene R. Ketten, Ph.D. and Senior Scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (www.whoi.edu [17]), travels extensively to perform beached whale necropsies (autopsies on non-human animals) in countries from Africa to Australia. Her expertise is continuously requested on numerous boards, panels, committees and briefings such as at NATO’s Intergovernmental Conference, for the Brazilian government’s Seminar on Seismic Impacts and with Advisory Panels for both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Ketten’s visiting faculty appointments and invited specialty lectures have taken her from the University of Hawaii’s Institute of Marine Biology to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to Denmark’s Odense Universitet. Even National Geographic has enlisted Ketten’s expert opinion for one of its televised specials on whales. |
