Lagenorhynchus acutus
2D axial CT slice through the thoracic cavity of an Atlantic White-sided Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus acutus) with a pneumothorax. A significant proportion of cetaceans diagnosed with bacterial or viral respiratory tract problems exhibit pulmonary abscesses subsequent to heavy parasite infestation. Pneumonia and or pneumothorax may also be secondary pathologies to inhalation of chemicals, trauma to the chest wall, fungi, and yeasts. Specimen courtesy of Cape Cod Stranding Network (CCSN/IFAW).
