Dwarf Sperm Whale Ear (0.1 mm) (K. simus)
2D image stack (see alos 3D reconstruction) from CT scans (0.1 mm slice increments) of a Dwarf Sperm Whale (Kogia breviceps) ear (related publication) progressing through the inner ear. Key structures visible in this series are the, tympanic bulla, periotic bone, ossicles (malleus, incus, stapes), semi-circular canals, cochlea and acousto-vestibular nerves.
